Chris, 59, is a well-known figure in Sydney, Australia, alongside his rat Lucy. His furry companion usually sits in a box at his feet but she disappeared when he stepped away for a loo break. Chris had assumed she had been stolen and put up notes asking if anyone had seen her. After a social media appeal, New South Wales police tracked down the missing pet and the pair were reunited on Thursday. After the police appeal for information, Lucy was spotted alone on the street.
A police statement said: ‘A woman who walked past and saw Lucy alone, believed she had been abandoned, so took her home and cared for her.’ They were reunited at the police station where Chris said his half-blind pet recognised him immediately. When officers asked him to make sure they had the right animal, Chris replied: ‘Yes, that’s her! She’s got the blind eye. She remembers me.’ He thanked officers for their efforts, adding: ‘Sorry for putting you all through the trouble of looking for her. ‘It feels wonderful. That you very much, everybody. ‘She knows she’s missed me too.’
